Treat Yourself!

To make healthy living a life-long habit, you need to reward yourself every now and then for a job well done.  Maybe you’ve done a better job of eating fresh produce as of late…maybe you’re actually drinking water instead of the empty calories that come from sodas…maybe you’re getting in 4 of 5 days of activity instead of just 2 or 3…

My point is simply this – when you make an effort to improve your fitness life – take note and reward yourself!  You can go with something as small as a healthy sweet treat like one of your favorite yogurts or maybe spring for those new running shoes you’ve had your eyes on.  But every now and then take some time to treat yourself for the investment you’re making to live a healthy life as one more way to keep your fitness journey exciting.

Hope you’re having a great week and staying cool!

It’s up to YOU!

Don’t forget that the decision to live a healthy life is up to you – not your kids, not your husband, not your friends…

You’re the one that holds the power to healthy living - no one else can do it for you!

Have a great day!

The heat is on and hydration should be up!

Summer is officially here in case you missed it…. For us down here in South Carolina that means humidity so thick you can taste it the minute you step out of from the cocoon of air conditioning right smack dab into the blistering heat of the day.   And it also means that water isn’t just something nice to talk about when it comes to fitness, it’s actually critical to making sure your body can handle the higher temperatures even if it’s just going from your back door to the mail box.

There’s much debate on how much water is actually enough, but I’m willing to bet that most of us need to do a better job of drinking more.  It certainly can’t hurt to try!

And please remember that if you happen to be mixing up a rotation with PowerFit Harmony with walking where you’re heading outdoors, look at the sweating you’ll do as a good thing when you take your stroll!  Though it’s certainly not as clean as the cool, dry air pouring out of a vent, sweating is the body’s own way of cooling down so if you’re out walking, don’t wipe it away unless you need to clear your eyes.  It’s the evaporation of the sweat that helps keep you cool!  And besides, down South we don’t really say we sweat, we prefer to say that we “glisten” and there’s nothing wrong with that!

Hope you’re having a wonderful week and a fabulous summer!

God bless!

Local Produce: Win, Win, Win!

No matter where you happen to live, this is the time of year where you can find great selection and price on fresh produce from coast to coast.  In my area we’ve got wonderful tomatoes, squash, watermelons, blackberries, strawberries, pole beans…and the list goes on and on!

Scientists have told us that it’s best to eat food as fresh as possible in order to get the most benefit from the nutrients which are present, so I want you to do your best to incorporate fresh produce as much as possible this summer into your diet.  In fact, here’s a little experiment…try to make it through just one whole day without eating ANYTHING from a box or bag.  That’s actually very hard to do in our modern day convenience society, but give it a try…I’d love to hear if you manage to make it!

When you eat local produce not only are you generally going to avoid additional pesticides and chemicals used to treat foods that have to be transported great distances and preserved, but you’ll also be helping out the local farmers by supporting them with your money.  And you’re getting the healthy benefits of their produce… That’s a win-win-win situation!!

Hope you’re having a fabulous summer and enjoy the summer produce!

God bless!
